Can single moms have married friends?

Is it possible for us single moms to be friends with married couples?

I have plenty of married girlfriends but they were my friends before they tied the knot. And I don’t see them very often. Not sure if it’s because they’re coupled up and don’t venture out much or if it’s because I just don’t have that much in common with them.

Am I way off base here? Do you have married friends?

Married people are weird (for the most part).

Maybe it’s because I already have the child, the job and the house – minus the husband – but married people mystify me. And why do so many single women want to get married so badly? I can understand why us single moms want to get married – it might be easier. I stress, the might. But single, childless women. Seriously. What gives? Am I missing something? Why do they want to find a man so badly? I look at young single women and all I think is god – you have the world in front of you. You could do everything…and be with someone – but do you have to marry him? Why this crazy desire for a ring?

Is marriage out of style?

When I was a little girl I never daydreamed about the white picket fence and the husband. In fact my daydreams didn’t include a man at all, they definitely didn’t include children. Instead I envisioned myself as a young, successful woman living in a white condo on the top of a skyscraper in New York City. Oh, and I had a maid. Ha. Yeah right.

Oh, those married people…

My friend Dave popped over this afternoon. We were pondering why we’re both still single at the ripe, yet should be married age of 28. Then I asked the question – “do you know any happily married people? I mean truly happy.” He raised an eyebrow and said, “one.”
