Remember the Lion?
I definitely do. He was that nice and totally adorable guy who had the unfortunate luck to schedule a date with me just one night after my first date with John Bear. I met him on a day in the park with Benjamin but at the time, was also juggling the Tiger (more on him, by the way, in Ms. Single Mama Uncensored).
Anyway… on our first non-date that turned into a date John and I both confessed that we had other dates set up for the next night.
“Let’s cancel them,” he said.
“I can’t,” I said. “He’s such a nice guy.” I hate canceling dates and I’m so glad I didn’t. I told the Lion almost as soon as we’d ordered our wine about meeting John and the incredible sparkage there. In spite of my news, the Lion wished me luck with grace. Before we said good night I said “You’re just too cute” and told him to give me a call if he wanted me to be featured on my blog as an eligible bachelor.
I may make this a regular thing because there are so many men out there who are ready for a commitment. It’s the men who aren’t ready who can hurt us so badly… must be wary of those commitment-phobic, bad boys. I’d like to bring you a man a month who is commitment ready and relatively baggage free.
With that… I bring you – the Lion.
He has such a positive attitude but also is very realistic and grounded. And he’s such a cutie. Now, he lives in Columbus Ohio, but you never know… one of you may live here or near or want to pack up a U-Haul. Or maybe the two of you can fly off and meet in Paris.
He’s a single dad, too. Did I mention that yet? To two gorgeous children. And if you remember, he and I met in a park so I saw him in action with them and he was an unbelievable dad – cool, calm, collected and such a fun guy.
One more picture…
If you’re interested – hop over to the Single Moms Forum to read a beautiful post the Lion wrote just for this (you’ll also find his e-mail there).
But first…

thanks …love the idea of featuring eligible guys!
Hey, I certainly need to steer clear of the bad boys. I attract them like flies! I hope the Lion finds someone special. And, even though a woman’s place is NOT in the kitchen, maybe I would start to spend a little more time in there if I was dressed in one of those beautiful aprons.
Keep up the good work xx
Sounds like a cool idea to feature a commitment ready guy every month. I wonder how you’re gonna find them but I will read your blog and see how it goes LOL. I am not looking, though – just love reading your blog.
I adore that apron & the book sounds interesting, too! I really think every single person needs to be in the mindset of thinking “I am completely happy with my life as it is and am not missing anything” before they can be ready to have a +1 in their life. At least that is how i feel.
And wow – the lion is attractive!!
Had to comment that apron is sooo cute. Been a reader for a while now & I love reading your stories.
Should definitely be a regular topic..

I have read your blog since the day I found I was expecting and going to be a single mom at the age of 28. Now I have three more months left until my ladybug comes! You have definitely inspired me. I definitely want to read your ebook, plus I am still wanting the gold leaf necklace. By the way, The Lion gives me hope that there are single, cute (HOT) guys out there that are romantic as well as grounded at the same time.
Been thinking about moving out of Ca. Ohio is looking better and better. I love the idea of single guys features on your blog. And I hope the lion finds someone awesome.
Super Hot Single Dad, check! Super cute apron, yes please! Your ebook would make my week. The idea of featuring an eligible bachelor is genius; if I hadn’t found my own sexy man I might just consider relocating.
What a great idea!! Though I think you should feature single men from all over if you can!!
And I looooove that apron!! I want it! And the books!!
First time commenting. I love your blog. I found it a few months back and it makes me feel like I’m not the only single mom in the world.

I just wanted to say that I think you’re an amazing person. After watching my mom deal with being a single parent, and now reading this blog…I just want to add that SINGLE MAMAS RULE!
I just love your blog. I have been a bit of a lurker who reads and doesn’t often comment. But I wanted you to know that I read your blog because I like it (I’m not a single mama, but a happily married stay at home mom of two girls). I think it is great that you found John Bear and I can’t wait to see what is in store for you
That’s the cutest apron I’ve ever seen!

Ashley – good point! I definitely want to feature bachelors from all over the country. If you know of one … please e-mail me and I’ll contact him. But only bachelors who are truly ready for a relationship.
xoxo everyone, thank you so much for your sweet comments.
Love the apron, how cute & flirty! He’s a cutie. He shouldn’t have too much trouble trying to find someone special. Be interested in knowing what he does to meet a girl, as a single dad, from the other point of view.
My appreciation for all positive remarks ladies… I’ll try not to let it go to my head. Alaina you and your readers are amazing it brings me joy to see your connection. I feel everyone reading your blog understands that they are not alone. Yes geographically you ladies are all over the world but through this blog you’re united in heart and spirit stronger and more confident. Continue to help one another with your positive energies and optimistic attitudes. Continue to lend a ear or send a message of inspirational encouragement as we all need from time to time.
The emails have started to come… Please don’t hesitate to email thoughts, questions, or comments you may have – they are all welcome. As you can see I’m rather open and kind. Here’s my comments! Although I am one of the (seemingly) rare happily married people, I love your blog. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us.
Michelle, the silver thing in the photo is THE BEAN. A sculpture in Millenium Park in Chicago IL.
Wow…seems I’ve been looking for men in all the wrong places! What a cutie!
Also, love the apron!! And I want the books! Sign me up!
That’s quite a package!
Hehe.
That is so nice of the Lion!
Wow. I totally wish I lived near Ohio….do you think The Lion would mind taking a trip to the north country (like Minnesota?) Haha…Any-who, what a great idea ~ Thanks!
What a novel idea posting a monthly eligible bachelor for the single mamas (and ladies). I wish I had a libido but I’m totally content with just being a new mamal; focusing on my bambino.
Anysnooze, crossing my fingers for an awesome prize package.
Love your site by the way. It makes the thought of dating as a single mom less scary….though I’m still totally frightened for the day my libido is in full throttle. Watch. Out!
Great idea, featuring eligible bachelors. Even if they are too far away to make a relationship possible it’s proof that there are good men out there.
How adorable. All of the above:) Consider me entered for the contest!:)!:)
Awesome giveaway… soooo sweet of The Lion!
What a great idea, Alaina! So sweet that even though you have found John Bear, you are still thinking of us other single mamas out there and featuring wonderful men! I can’t wait to read your book …
Oh he’s CUTE!! I usually end up falling for the “rough around the edges” guys but this Lion guy is adorable!!
I think this guy looks like a complete sweetheart

Aww that is great of you to feature him.He does seem like a neat , cute guy.Hope he finds happiness through here. And how honest and open of you to tell him about John Bear from the gettyup !!! You Truly Rock Girl !
Hi. I find it interesting that you say: “there are so many men out there who are ready for a commitment. It’s the men who aren’t ready who can hurt us so badly… ”
Personally I have found in my own life as a dating single mom that the ones who aren’t ready for a commitment are often the ones who are great for dating and also are the ones who are wonderfully supportive and great friends/lovers for me. Often it is the ones who demand commitment from me that end up hurting me. I find it a little presumptuous on your part to say the men who aren’t ready for commitment are the ones “who can hurt us so badly” Who is this collective “us” that you are referring to here?
Just a thought, from this one single mom who doesn’t relate to that idea.
Love the sexy apron + 2 amazing books! Such a great prize pack.
I’m an avid reader of your work..and now that there’s sexy mom-approved men included..I think I’m even more excited.
Love the idea of featuring eligible guys…it’s just too bad that they will more than likely live so far away and be so non-Canadian. But even if I more than likely won’t be buying anytime soon it’s fun to look and nice to know that there are good men out there who are single mom friendly!
That apron would be great for that house I will someday have in the country. It appears to be the perfect addition for the ideal of a real home in the country! Ahhh…takes me back to my great grandmother, always had an apron on. This one is a bit sexier and farmer “John” couldn’t wait to get home to a wife waiting wearing that.
Obviously, not married here but the illusion of it all is fun.
As far as the bachelor a month club is concerned, my hope is that you get enough for a bachelor a week from different states etc.. Come on ladies, send in your referrals.
And, I love your site, your twitter and facebook posts. Always entertaining and always a brighter day. Ben and Bear and so cute, you are indeed a lucky girl. Can’t wait to read the dish in your book. The best of luck to you.
I stumbled here and fell in love with your voice that comes through your writing, and your adorable boyfriend John. i am happily married mom of three but everyone loves a great match, and i have an especially soft spot for meeting that ’slightly geeky nervous but sweet hearted guy who absolutely falls head over heels for you’…cuz that’s my story.:)
@krista
That’s a really, really good point. I write about this in my book extensively – actually devote an entire chapter to sex and lovers and when you’re ready or not ready for one. I personally have been hurt by men who aren’t ready for relationships and also have been offended or annoyed by those who do – so I totally get what you’re saying. But I think more than not, the guys who aren’t ready at all, who lead us to believe they are, those are the men who have hurt many of my friends in the immediate future – perhaps that’s why I wrote it that way. Great point and thank you so much, you are absolutely right.
@Maggie Mae – thank you so much for sharing that adorable comment. LOVE it and love that you think we’re a great match. Means much coming from those who are happily paired off themselves.
That apron is awesome! Please enter me into the contest : )
I have never seen a man with such perfect teeth.
What a great idea and he looks like such a cool guy. Your site keeps getting more and more interesting.
Haha love a good contest!
I would love to take part on it!! This Lion guy, so cute, and his comments are so positive!
OH Alaina, I need a friend like you but at least in the same country. I´d totally apply for him, oh, and the other prizes too! xoxo.
Alaina! I looove that apron! I have been a long time reader, and I already have a copy of the ebook, but I have got to have that apron! Keep up the great work, you really do inspire me
Okay, even though it is like 150 degrees down here in Texas for, like, the 100th day in a row (hyperbole, I know, but not by much), and even though it has sapped any sort of “romantic” type feelings, I have to admit that the Lion is hotter than the weather.
Must crank the AC even lower now. Thanks a lot!
Apron is cute too!
I think you’ve strucking blogging gold with this idea. Maybe your future career is in matchmaking? P.S. My blog sold you a book!
What a pretty apron. Please enter me into the contest and thank you for the blog. I come by every day =)
I should probably come up with something witty to say since it’s been a while since I commented Alaina – but I really just want to be entered in the contest! (I’m broke as hell and really want your book!)
Am I too late for the contest? Just started following you a few months ago and really love your tweets!
You’re not too late… I will keep this contest open until Tuesday, August 3rd at 5:00 pm.
xoxo
Alaina
That apron is adorable! I scheduled posts for tomorrow about your eBook and linked to this article about The Lion on my blog.

Wow, great prizes!! That apron is adorable. May I be entered?
I’d like to be entered! Great prizes. (Especially since I just tried to buy the ebook and for some reason it doesn’t work for me, just says, sorry last transaction cannot be completed. It’s probably me…)
Lion is a cutie! Very cool of him to add 5 of your books to the mix.
What a great idea!!!

Love the idea of posting cute, eligible bachelors.. fun, fun! And can’t wait to read your e-book. From the sneak peak at the contents page it looks like it will be great. Congrats on getting it done!
Love the eligible bachelor idea! I just finished your e-book and loved it! Came in very handy lately as I’ve just started dating again as a single mom!
@Darlene, Thanks. Chicago is not too far from me, I may have to go see that!
just now have been able to actually get on the computer (instead of my blackberry) and look at this apron; it’s ADORABLE!!!
I can’t figure out the time difference between us – but I’m hoping I’m still in with a chance of winning that Fabulous apron and your e-book! Just so brain dead at the moment coping with work and trying to sort childcare while my kids are on the summer holidays…..but I’m sure you all know how that goes!
That apron is adorable ~ so is the ‘eligible bachelor’ – great idea! We don’t have a lot of those here in Mass sadly…
I think your idea is fabulous – it’s great to know that there are still wonderful men out there lying in wait for wonderful women like us.
