Single Mom Friday Zen, III

by mssinglemama on April 3, 2009

And because I wouldn’t be driving this car without you, we are who we are and only that, at peace with ourselves and blissfully unaware of what lies beyond the comfort of mommy’s warm kitchen.

But just because we’re adults doesn’t mean we can’t get in on the bliss free, care free fun.

Do yourself a favor. Have some fun this weekend. For a moment (or even a long few).

Forget about the dishes.

Forget about the laundry.

Forget about the bills.

Forget about the fact that there is no man in your house (this one especially).

Then let your hair down, take a second to give it a good manic shake and chase the kids around like a crazed yelling lunatic. Arms flailing, shouts bursting and feet scampering.

Just let it all out.

I know you can do it.

We give so much to our children, it’s okay to borrow a few moments of their energy in exchange.

Immerse yourselves in their little world before it disappears.

In the meantime, if you have time, just leave a comment and you’ll be entered to win a $25.00 gift certificate from the nice people at Eco Store USA.

Their plant based house cleaning products work just as well (I think better) than the leading chemical laden brands… and they’re safer to use – especially with little kids around. They sent me their Citrus Spray Cleanser, the Cream Cleanser and the dish soap last week and it’s out of this world awesome.

I can’t tell you how freeing it is to clean Benjamin’s sippy cup and not have to worry about the chemicals the soap leaves behind. Or how nice it is to have a fresh smelling kitchen, not one that reeks of bleach or whatever else.

Lovely, this stuff, I tell you. Absolutely lovely.

If you don’t believe me start stalking me and you’ll see me dancing in my kitchen with that spray bottle squirting just about everything in sight.

Look here’s proof – I used the Cream Cleanser on my sink… just look at that sparkle.

I wish you could smell it. That’s the best part. And see my reflection in the water purifier? Now that’s clean. I usually don’t go on and on about products nice brand people send me but I really, truly love this stuff.

Just leave a comment to let me know you want the gift certificate and I’ll announce the winner next Friday.

I’m thinking I’ll do a little Zen contest every week. What do you guys think? Yay? Nay?

So glad someone else is having a bad hair day and not just me. And thanks for reminding me to have fun with my children this weekend – sometimes I just get so caught up in the survival mode that I forget to let my hair down. There's nothing like having children to remind you of what you're missing. Have a great weekend! 🙂

Julie April 3, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Yay, zen moments! We are having a pajama day as I type. Can't be beat. That and wandering off in the woods to explore, losing all track of time. I call it entering "the zone". Off to zone out while making pancakes…

Nakia April 3, 2009 at 12:49 pm

I'm loving Friday Zen. 🙂 I'm waiting for Kaleb to wake up so we can get our Friday started properly with a bit of "Friday Morning Happy Dance". It's a tradition that Kaleb started all on his own and it was so cute, I just had to join in.

I've never heard of that brand of cleaning products. I'm intrigued. 🙂 Oh and I think contests are a great idea!

Derek April 3, 2009 at 1:00 pm

I'd love to give the cleaning products to my single-mom girlfriend as a present…We're both very into chemical-free organic products.

Or better yet, surprise her by cleaning the sink and dishes at her house with them during one of our living-room dates! I always try to leave the place a little nicer than I found it because it's hard enough with two toddlers, she doesn't need a 30-year-old kid running around! LOL.

jodi April 3, 2009 at 1:07 pm

First of all, Derek…do you have a slightly older, single brother? Cause…Oh. My. GOD! So sweet!
Second…I love love love the morning sleepy face! I love the still warm from the covers, snuggle that my youngest gives! It is a perfect night for a stay in snuggle-fest! A snuggle-a-palooza, if you will!
Thanks for the idea!

Derek April 3, 2009 at 1:36 pm

LOL, Wish I did have a brother, I'd gladly hook you up. 😉 I'm the last single male of my family, cousin and his wife are into their careers, and my sister and bro-in-law aren't even talking about kids.

I told my girlfriend early on how I operate in our relationship: Every day when I wake up, I ask myself: What can I do to make her life and the kids lives better today?

We don't live together yet but we are talking about it in the near future. Last night we went out for ice cream, and she and the kids were in PJs already, so I volunteered to stand in line and retrieve the treats from the counter. While she was reading to her son in the car, he looked up and said "Look! That's my daddy there!" She looked around, wondering if her ex was there somewhere. "I don't see your daddy," she said. "The one in the red shirt!" He replied. Then she realized: he was talking about me.

Sorry to ramble on but I just had to share…When you meet the right one, it'll be awesome!

Jody April 3, 2009 at 1:08 pm

I love Fridays! Unfortunately my son is going to be with his grandpa turkey hunting this weekend!

Lucy April 3, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Love the picture of your Benjamin. We are having our own Benjamin in June. Can't wait!

Would love to have safer cleaning products so he has a better, less chemical-ly (did I make that word up?) environment!

mssinglemama April 3, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Yay!!!! Ricky and Lucy! I LOVE you and your blog. Of course, I'm a HUGE fan of I Love Lucy. So excited you'll have a Benjamin too.

Yes, the products are more expensive but well worth it… I'm not sure if I can ever go back after experiencing cleaning with these. You don't get all sick breathing in the fumes either. Especially important if you're pregnant.

Laura April 3, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Friday Zen…thanks I needed the reminder to just let it all go for a few

Rhonda Fradette April 3, 2009 at 2:49 pm

Love your blog….thanks for reminding me to forget about the "to do" list and chase my kids around. I'm off to do that right now. I'd love to win the certificate…having 2 young kids always has me worried about the cleaning products that I use. Help!

PB and Jazz April 3, 2009 at 3:17 pm

Thanks for the reminder to let loose and have fun! I would love to win the certificate! Have a great weekend!

jeffra April 3, 2009 at 3:30 pm

I would love to try the products…especially since I am just now getting on this green train…and with allergies, asthma and living in the smoggy valley, I would love to see if these could help. My baby would appreciate it too..we will definitely make time to play this weekend….and i proposed getting a new camera to my husband after your apron post…he is all for it, yay!

mssinglemama April 3, 2009 at 3:38 pm

Ha! Probably because you told him you were reading this awesome single mom's website. ; ) So funny. Seriously – sounds like an awesome husband! Give him a big shout out from me.

C Lo April 3, 2009 at 3:45 pm

I've been sorely dissapointed with other "eco friendly" dishsoaps, they don't seem to really cut through grease very well………does your magical soap work well on grease? (God, I sound like a frucking commercial)

Anyways……… would be nice to try if it works. I love nice smelling things in my house

Kristy Hammerschmidt April 3, 2009 at 3:55 pm

I totally agree with letting go and being in the moment and remembering what life is about. I have 2 kids and my 2 yr. old keeps me on my toes. She knows how to be free and have fun. I have tried some "eco friendly" products and just haven't found the right ones yet. I would love to try the ones you use.

lilmissbridget April 3, 2009 at 4:06 pm

I think products like this are great. I have super sensitive skin and have eczema outbreaks on my hands….I would love to try this product =) Everything else just makes me break out and get itchy!

mssinglemama April 11, 2009 at 12:47 pm

You won!!! I'll be contacting you by e-mail for your address so they can send you the certificate. Enjoy this stuff it's really awesome!

heatherbooty April 3, 2009 at 4:50 pm

i would love to try these products! i just started reviewing eco-friendly products i've tried on my blog, and i need to pick up some more cleaning products as opposed to bodycare products.

have a beautiful, zen day!

mssinglemama April 3, 2009 at 4:56 pm

So far… it's cut through every dish I've needed to clean – including greasy post pancake pan just fine. But your grease may be more hard core than mine. But you can always leave a chemical dish soap for that heavy, heavy stuff and use this for stuff the kids and you eat out of .

LiLi April 3, 2009 at 4:56 pm

Wow, I'd love to use that stuff. I use stuff from JR Watkins and Method all the time, but I haven't heard of the Eco Store.

Benjamin's hair looks awesome – I only wish my bad hair days looked so good!

jeffra April 3, 2009 at 5:52 pm

Oh yes…he knows about you and saw you at Matt's playdate. I tell him "how does she have time to keep this cool blog AND be a single mom and I have a cool husband and I can't do shit".He looks at me like "do you really want me to answer that", guess I need a little more time under my belt at this new parenting thing. It only took me til my 30's to find a good man and it helped that he is from MN where they grow them husband material 🙂

notasoccermom April 3, 2009 at 7:07 pm

You dont have to tell me!
Acting like a kid with your kids, at any age – them or you- is great therapy and great exercise too.
I play hard like them then rest hard like them too.
nice post!

Jennifer April 3, 2009 at 7:41 pm

I wish that I could upload a picture of my daughter's severe bed head! The kid doesn't have much hair anyways but when she wakes up it looks like bird have made a nest in it! Ha! I have also been looking at upgrading my 'chemical laden' products with ones that are ok for use around children. So thanks for the recommendation!

Mikaela April 3, 2009 at 9:09 pm

OK…so I know that this sounds weird, but I don't want the certificate. There are people that deserve it more…BUT, I did want to leave a comment about flailing of the arms and acting like a mad woman. Was doing just such last night, running away from the mini one when I ran my little toe into our coffee table. Said toe is now all beautiful colors of the rainbow…sadly, I believe it's broke.

Rebecca K. April 3, 2009 at 11:12 pm

Zen contests are a good thing 🙂 , esp. for eco friendly prizes like these !

Kona April 3, 2009 at 11:30 pm

I love Mrs. Meyers Lavender spray. I'm still using Cascade for my dishwasher, but I'll probably be switching soon…

Katie April 4, 2009 at 12:24 am

Lol, I am having a bad hair month due to an ill advised spiral perm, but whatever. I am getting hugs and hanging out with one of the coolest boys I know all weekend long. Tomorrow we are going to his first ever Easter egg hunt. Should be great fun.

Candy April 4, 2009 at 12:37 am

Ok, I just have to ask… has anyone seen "One Fine Day" with Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney? I'm thinking that the shirt Benjamin is wearing looks very similar to the one she borrows from her son… maybe her day would've been better sooner if she had had some zen products 🙂 Alaina, you really made a good choice with your new camera. Those pics are beautiful!

Lex April 4, 2009 at 12:50 am

Just took a long nap with my 2yo. My Friday Zen. 🙂

Kim April 4, 2009 at 12:59 am

I needed to read this today. Thank you! And I've love to win the certificate!

Angel April 4, 2009 at 1:33 am

Being free and full of energy is wonderful and ZEN rocks!!!!!!!!!!

Calleah April 4, 2009 at 3:41 am

I think that it goes for anyone, really, even if you don't have kids 🙂 I try and take time out for myself away from all the crap I have to do each week on my weekends and just relax.

Victoria April 4, 2009 at 10:02 am

"Crazed lunatic" – check. Oh, me? Not the up-way-too-early Whiny Whinerson that is my preschooler? Oh.

I'll see what I can do. Some free stuff would help … 🙂

Syd April 4, 2009 at 7:04 am

I love the picture of Benjamin, it made my morning at work yesterday. I’m following your advice and taking my girls to the farmers market this morning, yay us! 🙂

meg April 5, 2009 at 2:56 am

I love days like that!

Heres to hoping I win the gift certificate!

Raina April 6, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Jaden April 6, 2009 at 5:29 pm
