My Dream Boy

by mssinglemama on March 24, 2009

Last fall before I rushed out the door to meet Cabin Man

I wrote a post reflecting on Benjamin’s birth.

In it I mentioned a vision of his face I’d had while pregnant:

The dreams intensified in the last few months of my pregnancy and once, in a night dream, I saw his face. He was above me, perhaps I was holding him up in the air, or maybe he was about to jump on me because he was older. His long dark hair surrounded his saucer eyes and his contagious smile. It was him.

This weekend at the park I had just pulled out my camera to take pictures of Benjamin playing with (and eventually tasting) straw.

And then, as I was crouched down with my camera to get a closer shot, he pounced on me.

Because I had the camera in one hand I lost my balance and fell into the wood chips. Then I started snapping pictures like crazy because the view was so magnificent.I mean how often do you get to see this?

And then… there he was.

My dream boy.

Here… I’ll save you from scrolling up to read that dream description again:

The dreams intensified in the last few months of my pregnancy and once, in a night dream, I saw his face. He was above me, perhaps I was holding him up in the air, or maybe he was about to jump on me because he was older. His long dark hair surrounded his saucer eyes and his contagious smile. It was him. Read the rest of that post here.

I’ll never forget that dream… and this picture is definitely it. And I have a feeling this is going to be a very good year.

P.S.

If you’re a new reader and you’re wondering about Benjamin’s missing teeth catch up here.

I dreamed of a daughter all through my life – I never dreamed of a son. I guess we should rely on our dreams a little more, from time to time. Somedays, I think I've always given birth to her, in whatever incarnation I've had. And I'm not even sure I believe in reincarnation.

He is such a doll. Single mamas have such intensity in their parenting. I love that.

We do, don't we? I'm starting to think it's because we don't have a man to worry about… ; )

I can actually understand where you are coming from with this dream stuff. I have never seen my son's face in my dreams .. well not that I remember, but from the beginning of my pregnancy I would dream about him constantly and it never failed I always had a beautiful baby boy in my arms who I always referred to lovingly as "My son". My heart set on him and as the gender confirmation neared I got a little nervous, but the dreams were right. There was a little boy growing inside of me. :D

Great pics! He really looks like you, too.

…except for the whole "teeth thing". Heh.

You think so? That's so cool. When he was born he looked just like his father. Very exciting to think he may look like me some day.

You just made me cry! It was a good cry though. I read the other post and cried some more. At the risk of sounding incredibly repetitive – You are so awesome and creative!!!!

Oh, what a beautiful post! I have often felt the same way about my son….I somehow pictured him before he was born. :) You are a fabulous mom.

Oh, I so did not want to make anyone cry. Hope you had some Kleenex nearby. And thanks for the sweet words.

What Shannon said – about the intensity of single Mom parenting, is so true. I've often felt it in your words, and seen it on other single Mom blogs – and hopefully conveyed it myself a few times. Lovely writing here.

Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying
your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any helpful hints for beginner blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
