A smudge in the plans.

Because we’re single parents and we don’t have time to read a million blogs every week I use this post every week to highlight my favorites and let you highlight yours … DON’T BE SHY. Shameless self-promotion is strongly encouraged.

My personal favorites this week

Canada Day 2008

This post is so moving, so heart felt and so well-written that I’m almost scared to point you this way because you’ll never read my blog again. No seriously, go read this post in which Kristen describes her and her 3-year-old’s experience in a busy cafe with happily married people everywhere. Something we can all relate to.

3 Steps to Instant Happiness

Green Bean Mama shares one of her tricks to instant happiness. I really enjoyed this post! Thanks for the tip Clare!

It’s Better to Give Than to Receive

Single Ma at Fabulous Financials always serves up amazing posts but this one shows a clear case of how paying it forward can pay big. If you’re not a regular reader of her blog, you should be … this single mom knows how to save the pennies.

Your Turn …
If you have a blog – leave a link to the best post you wrote all week.

If you don’t have a blog – leave a link the best post you’ve read all week.

Try to keep them on the single parent theme, but if there’s something extra special out there, feel free to post it.

For Christmas my little brother bought me a gift certificate for a facial …

I still haven’t used it.

I have one night to myself each week, I usually use it to run errands or go out with friends. I really, really want to get that facial but I just can’t seem to find the time to make it happen. So when I stumbled across the Burts Bees Facial Kit I snapped it up.

The little kit includes everything you need for an at home facial and it’s only $8.95. (I found mine at Half Price Books for $3.95). First the cleanser, next the scrub, then a green mask and to top it off, a mosturizing cream that’s to die for. While the cleanser, cream and mask are just for one time use, the scrub will last for a while. Mine came with a cute little bowl to mix up the scrub and mask.

My face was glowing for days…and the best part is you can do it at home! Just had to pass it on.

If you’ve tried it or have any other beauty tricks or tips, please leave a comment!

I am actually listed right under Dooce on Alltop’s list of the top mom bloggers.

Color me speechless. Dooce, Heather B. Armstrong, is my personal hero. So it’s very surreal to see my name next to hers. If you haven’t checked out Alltop yet – get over there. Could be just a random shuffling order fluke, but I’ll enjoy seeing my name next to hers while I can. Thanks Guy!

Some other exciting news... iHeartSingleParents.com has asked me to lead their Dating & Advice group (note, I’m a dating expert not a relationship expert. Ha!). And Loovya.com, a new online dating site, has asked me to be a feature blogger, check out my posts here.

I still have yet to make a penny off of this blog, largely because I’ve been too lazy to activate my membership with the BlogAd network, which a dear friend and fellow blogger sponsored me to join. I’m just too busy writing, being a mommy and working full-time to get that going but it is definitely on the horizon.

All of this excitement is thanks to you … so my dear readers, I have a little perk to pass your way.Loovya is offering 50 of you a 3 month membership to their site at no charge. Right now the site is free to everyone, but your free 3 months will be good even after they start charging the masses. There aren’t very many members yet, but take advantage of this anyway. Who knows? You might just meet someone. The site kicks ass too, it’s not your average dating site. Think Facebook meets Match. Very refreshing because that’s how it should be. To take advantage of their offer to my readers, click here to register and enter the promotion code “mssinglemama”.

It’s my little thank you present, because without all of you I would be … well, that’s a scary thought so I just won’t go there.

And this weekend I’m headed off to San Francisco for a little vacation. Two days of travel and two days of play with Morgan Siler from iHeartSingleParents.com and Jim Everson from DepotDad.com. I’m excited but also nervous as hell because I’m leaving Benjamin. I know … he’ll be fine. But outside of one  four day trip I took in March, we haven’t been apart since he was born 2.3 years ago.

During that mini vacation I missed him the entire time. So he may be fine but I don’t know if I will. I hate being away from him. I guess this weekend’s seperation will be a trial for the big seven day trip to Denmark in August.

When was your last vacation? Did you enjoy it or miss the kids the entire time? Have you even had one?

How often does this happen?

Morgan (Modern Single Momma), Jim (Depot Dad) and I are having such an amazing weekend! We’re on our way to downtown San Francisco to interview people about dating and dating a single mom or single dad. We just shot this little video in the car on the way into the city.

I miss Benjamin like crazy but Grandma says he’s in heaven out in the woods with his uncles … making bonfires, playing in the mud – all of that boy stuff. Flying out tomorrow, hopefully I won’t freak out all of the parents with toddlers on the plane again.

How often does this happen?

Morgan (Modern Single Momma), Jim (Depot Dad) and I are having such an amazing weekend! We’re on our way to downtown San Francisco to interview people about dating and dating a single mom or single dad. We just shot this little video in the car on the way into the city.

I miss Benjamin like crazy but Grandma says he’s in heaven out in the woods with his uncles … making bonfires, playing in the mud – all of that boy stuff. Flying out tomorrow, hopefully I won’t freak out all of the parents with toddlers on the plane again.

There’s a giant smudge on our shots from San Francisco.

It’s staring at me and I’m staring at it – wishing it away. But there it is … smudging up every one of our scenes and interviews.

I’m going to make the video anyway. Smudge be damned. I haven’t screamed at the smudge, I haven’t even looked back. The smudge is there and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. The only thing I can hope is that you all can overlook my little smudge.

So how are you guys? I feel like the trip completely stole me away for a while. Any unexpected smudges in your lives? Are you looking past them and just chugging right along?

P.S. The video is still going to be amazing (thanks to Morgan the Magnificent, aka Modern Single Momma). So stay tuned. And I’m back home to Benjamin and my extremely trashed house.

As the cameraman, it really was my job to notice this and wipe the lens before each shot. If I wasn’t so busy gulping down cappuccinos and checking my hair for my cameos I might have been able to. Sorry! Lets all pretend it is a bit of romantic San Francisco fog that slipped into each shot, ok? ok?…hello? Why are you all looking at me like that?

You guys are awesome … don’t worry Jim – it’s looking fantastic, working on it furiously right now! SO excited. (and I was behind that camera too – didn’t notice the damn smudge either).

Wow! I didn’t know there was a reality show about single mommies. Of course, I’m not surprised…

You guys did a great job. “Smudge be damned.” I like it. I like Jim’s fog idea too! 🙂

Hi Ellen, You really are so sweet and so enaigrcuong in your comment and they are always such a refreshing breath of fresh air to me. I have to admit being very pleased about how things are going at the moment but have decided that now the third book has been submitted I really do need to lighten the work load up a bit and rest more if I am going to beat this darn flu bug.Additionally I really would like to attend church in the morning and we have a fellowship Christmas meal scheduled afterwards and I am looking forward to going to that so have been pretty much resting up mot of the day in readiness.I will look into the medication that you recommended and will consult my doctor. I am not sure as to whether or nor she will agree to e having it since it has Codeine in it as I take some fairly strong meds with Codeine in them already and so we have to be very careful. But I do appreciate your letting me know about it.Ok I am back off to bed for a bit. Thank you once again for such kind words and encouragement.Kind Regards and God bless youKevin.
