A Single Mom Dating Show. It’s About Time.

April 14, 2008

I could never do it. Ever. Seriously? Film crews following me around. But I can’t wait to see this show! TLC is three weeks away from shooting Single Moms, a live reality dating show.

Three single moms will be filmed in real time. Men watching the show can apply to date them and then be flown in to meet the moms. According to the New York Post:

In the European version of the show, “Ensam mamma soker,” each of the three moms are introduced through personal ads. Men viewing the show can respond and, after rigorous background checks, each woman invites around 40 men to visit her hometown where they are whittled down to a group of about eight.

Each week another suitor is eliminated until only two are left. Then, the finalists meet the mom’s kids and see if they can fit in to her family.

And thanks to Chrissy over at Glamour who tipped her readers off to the news. This show sounds awesome! A few concerns – namely the kids. Will they be in front of the cameras? How many men will they meet? I’m sure the producers will keep that in mind. Someone is going to have to tape this for me because I don’t have TV. Darn it.

Would you ever consider a reality TV show? Will you watch this show?

Do you keep up with your ex on MySpace or Facebook?

April 14, 2008

Crazy how MySpace and Facebook have changed the way we date. In just a few seconds you can scope out your ex’s relationship status, flirtatous comments and daily activities. Twitter makes it even worse. Maybe I should go on a delete binge tonight.

How often do you delete your the Ex-Profiles on MySpace and Facebook? Can you do it? Do you think I can?

Deleting an ex is like permanently severing all ties…but then I think of the ex’s who were my friends – the ones I genuinely want to stay in touch with. And then I think of the sting when I see their “latest activity.”

I vote for delete.

Am I a man-hater?

April 12, 2008

Had an interesting conversation today with a stranger in a coffee shop. His daugher, who is my age, is also a single mom. “Her latest boyfriend seems like the real deal,” he said, “he’s even talking marriage.” One thing led to another and I explained that I’m not looking for a husband. “I just don’t [...]

No room for a man…literally.

April 11, 2008

There isn’t another adult vested in the outcome of my decision. No one to stop me or to tell me I’m nuts. What if I am making a mistake?

To hell with it. You know what? I can live with that. If I do screw it up it will be my fault, not the dumbass I’m married to. And, because I’m a single mom and every success is on my shoulders, there’s a fat chance I’ll screw it up. Right? My worst fear – that the McCain gets elected and WWIII breaks out. Other than that – should be good to go.

Being one with thyself and no one else rocks!

OMG! I think I’m moving to the burbs!

April 10, 2008

I am meeting with an attorney tomorrow … to put an offer on the house!

I went to see it on my lunch break today … was it just this afternoon? Yep. It was love at first sight. It’s so cozy, comfortable and safe. And the aura – is magnificent. Good vibes all around.

And guess who lives in it now? A single woman in her 40′s. No kids. But a strong single woman who’s kept the place absolutely pristine. The house has a magnificent aura. And the view from the living room window? An old park. (The new park with the mountain climbing wall is down the block). But Benjamin will wake up every morning and see “his” park.

Rockabye Baby…I want to kill the Barnes & Noble lady.

April 10, 2008

After Benjamin spends 36 hours with daddy I usually spend 48 hours repairing the damage. He’s extra needy and extra disobedient. For example, I got home from work last night. Benjamin sees me – freaks out – and won’t let go. I seriously have to pee holding him in my arms while his dad fumbles [...]

Can this city girl handle the burbs?

April 9, 2008

I’ve officially launched my house hunt.

The neighborhood I’ve set my sights on is in the suburbs. The houses are adorable. There are plenty in my price range (thanks to the housing bubble burst) and the schools are top-notch.It’s not a cookie-cutter suburb, it’s an old suburb, but a suburb nonetheless.

Tomorrow I am cramming three house viewings into my lunch break. So tonight I popped Benjamin in the car for a little trip … our mission to get a feel for the neighborhood in the evening.

First we stopped and looked at a few houses from the street, like this one!

Can single moms have married friends?

April 8, 2008

Is it possible for us single moms to be friends with married couples?

I have plenty of married girlfriends but they were my friends before they tied the knot. And I don’t see them very often. Not sure if it’s because they’re coupled up and don’t venture out much or if it’s because I just don’t have that much in common with them.

Am I way off base here? Do you have married friends?

One bitchin’ hang over.

April 7, 2008

Do you ever get out for party nights? One thing is true of single moms, when we do get a chance to go out – we tend to go a little wild.

As for my wild night, nothing too crazy to report. Just lots and lots of drinking, some good laughs and some much needed girl time. Oh, and I met a single dad who is also a realtor. There’s that kharma for you. So a new house might be in my future.
