How to change or hide your MySpace or Facebook relationship status

I can’t ignore this anymore. A few months ago I wrote an entry on how social networking has changed the face of dating. This entry was inspired by my boyfriend’s sudden and rather shocking announcement to me in bed that he’d changed his relationship status on Facebook. This entry alone has pointed hundreds of people to my site – all searching under these terms, “how to change my relationship status on Facebook/MySpace.”

So I thought it my duty to give them the answer. Here you go all of you newly single or newly tied up virtual world fans…

To change your relationship status on MySpace:

1. Go to Background & Lifestyle

2. And – whalah – you’re there. Sounds so easy but filing your relationship under “background and lifestyle” can be a bit misleading. The first time I had to change my status on MySpace it took me at least 15 minutes to figure it out…I was scrolling through every tab – so frustrating. Anyway there you go.

To HIDE your relationship status on MySpace:

[NOTE: This code messes up some MySpace pages, if you have a better code please leave it in the comment section]

1. In the Heroes section enter: <table><tr><td><table><tr><td>

2. At the top of the About Me section enter: <style>.hidethem {visibility:hidden; display:none;}</style>

[NOTE: This code messes up some MySpace pages, leave a comment if you figure out how to use it correctly]

To change your relationship status on Facebook:

1. Click the small edit icon right next to your profile icon.

2. Click relationships and change. Easy again.

To HIDE your relationships status on Facebook:

1. Click the small edit icon righ next to your profile icon.

2. Click relationships.

3. Choose select status: – then it leaves it blank on your profile page.

P.S. I figured this out after my boyfriend and I broke up – then got back together again. After our reconciliation he just didn’t list his status. He’s smart…that’s why I like him.

It worked for me but messed up the rest of my layout. The boxes on the right column of the layout started 3/4 of the way down the page instead of at the top. Although it did hide my personal status type information.

Any suggestions on why it messed up my layout?

Tony – I’m not sure… here is another website with more answers on how to hide your MySpace Relationship Status, she doesn’t have an answer yet but says she’ll update it when she does:

jay March 13, 2009 at 4:11 pm

copy this code to get rid of your details section. marital status to occupation the whole lot. go to edit profile and in the about me section copy and paste this code to remove it.

<style>
.r{}
table.userProfileDetail {display:none}
</style>

if you have the 1.0 version of myspace which i prefer and use your there is no background an lifestyle. go to edit profile and then details. that is where you can edit.

i am trying to figure out the relationship status thing. both me and my boyfriend have facebook and when we confirm that we both are in relationship with each other, it only shows up on one of our profiles, and not the other. how do you get it to where we both have on our profiles in relationship with (our names)?

I hid my facebook relationship status but now I can’t get it back to in a relationship. Like I did the little drop down thing but it stayed hidden. Anyone know how to fix that?

My bf and I can’t get our relationship status on Facebook to say one anothers name. Either mine says in a relationship with him, and his is blank or vise versa. How do I fix this?

Thanks for this tip about changing relationship settings. I spent half an hour trying to find where the change things (I’m new to FB so still learning) and I didn’t see the edit profile link at all. So thanks for the tip :)

someone put my name on his relationship status, how do I stop the person from putting my name on his relationship status on facebook?

Actually you need to go to edit profile and then to Featured people. Right on the top of the page you’d find “Relationship Status” and you can choose from thre.
